The funny story about this lovely engagement session is that I used to live right next to this location for a few years. I could see the park directly from my window and every now and then, I would spy the odd photographer doing their session.
At a simple glance, the park doesn’t show much appeal. Just another block of greenery smack in the middle of downtown along with a heritage building that used to be a school. But I saw the potential, saw the classiness and elegance that resembled that of what Stephen Avenue once used to be – polished, clean, regal even, but in a much more private and well kept area.
For years I dreamt of shooting a a session with no luck. Clients with their heart set on specific locations who maybe couldn’t see the vision I saw. But then M&G came along. Another couple looking for that heritage elegance that could potentially be archived somewhere like the Hudson Bay Arches. But when I suggested this spot, they saw what I saw and trusted the vision, and it was SO worth it!
Our session was during the first week of October, when winter starts creeping in, the days start shortening up and the mornings get really chilly, but we knew we wanted that golden glow from the building lighting, and we were on a tight timeline, so we opted for an early 8 a.m. session, right before sunrise.
As luck may have it, we all arrived 15 minutes early and started shooting right away. Which is a good thing we did, since the building shut their lights off right at 8:00 a.m., when we would’ve started our session.
This engagement session with M&G was classy and elegant while still being super fun! Even though it was a little chilly, I’m so happy these two stuck around and trusted the vision for this location. I’m completely obsessed with how these turned out and can’t wait to shoot their wedding next year!
